UV Resistance
Compared to other materials used in photonics applications, silicone can be formulated to resist optical degradation after exposure to UV light.
LS-3440 was exposed for multiple hours to a UV "Visible" bulb. The spectral output is described in the following table:
Spectral Band |
% of Total Radiation |
MW/cm |
Visable (40-750 nm) |
49% |
93 |
UVA (320-400 nm) |
34% |
64 |
UVB (280-320 nm) |
17% |

Temperature Resistance
In addition to optical stability after exposure to UV radiation, silicone can also be formulated to minimize or resist optical degradation due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
